WEEK OF MAR 7 – 13, 2026

Anthropic sues the Pentagon, LeCun banks a record seed, and NVIDIA ships an open agentic 120B

AI power politics went to federal court, Europe got its largest seed round ever aimed at a non-LLM architecture, and the week's biggest open model was pitched squarely as an agent brain.

Anthropic escalated its fight with the Department of War into federal court, Yann LeCun's new world-models lab closed the largest seed round in European history, and NVIDIA tied Mira Murati's Thinking Machines to a gigawatt of Vera Rubin while open-sourcing Nemotron 3 Super.

Agents were the through-line: both of the week's notable model drops were built and marketed as the reasoning core of an agent stack.

NVIDIA open-sources Nemotron 3 Super: 120B MoE, 12B active, 1M context, built for agents

NVIDIA released Nemotron 3 Super, a 120B-total / 12B-active hybrid Mamba-Transformer mixture-of-experts model aimed at multi-agent workloads, with fully open weights, datasets and training recipes.

It is the first Nemotron 3 model pretrained natively in NVFP4, introduces a new LatentMoE routing architecture, and adds multi-token-prediction layers for native speculative decoding — together yielding over 5x the throughput of the previous Nemotron Super, and 2.2x and 7.5x higher inference throughput than GPT-OSS-120B and Qwen3.5-122B respectively. Native context is 1M tokens. On PinchBench, a benchmark for an LLM acting as the brain of an OpenClaw agent, NVIDIA reports 85.6%.

WHY IT MATTERS

An open-weight model explicitly engineered around the two economics that kill agent stacks — context re-sending and the per-step reasoning tax — with the full pretraining recipe published.

Anonymous 1T-parameter 'Hunter Alpha' lands on OpenRouter and tops the charts

A free, unattributed model called Hunter Alpha appeared on OpenRouter, which the platform labeled a stealth model. Its profile advertised roughly 1 trillion parameters, a 1M-token context window, reasoning capability and free access — a combination Reuters noted matched widely reported expectations for DeepSeek's unreleased V4.

It rapidly topped OpenRouter's daily usage charts, passing 500 billion tokens in its first week. At the time nobody had claimed it; Xiaomi's MiMo team later confirmed it was an early internal test build of MiMo-V2-Pro, its flagship agent model.

WHY IT MATTERS

Stealth drops on OpenRouter are now the standard pre-launch play for frontier Chinese labs — and for a week, the most-used model on the largest gateway had no public owner.

Google closes its $32B Wiz acquisition — its biggest deal ever

Google LLC completed its $32 billion all-cash acquisition of cloud and AI security platform Wiz, a year after announcing it and following US DOJ clearance in November 2025 and unconditional EU approval on February 10, 2026.

Wiz joins Google Cloud but keeps its brand and its commitment to securing AWS, Azure and Oracle Cloud environments. Wiz had crossed $1 billion in ARR in 2025, roughly double the run rate at the time of Google's first, rejected $23 billion approach. The close makes it both the largest acquisition in Google's history and the largest-ever acquisition of a venture-backed startup.

WHY IT MATTERS

Cloud-security consolidation at AI scale — Google is buying distribution and neutrality in the layer that secures the AI workloads it also hosts.

NVIDIA signs Thinking Machines Lab to a gigawatt of Vera Rubin — and invests

NVIDIA and Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Lab announced a multi-year strategic partnership to deploy at least one gigawatt of next-generation Vera Rubin systems for frontier model training, with deployment targeted for early next year.

NVIDIA also made a significant undisclosed investment in the startup, and the two will co-design training and serving systems for NVIDIA architectures. At NVIDIA's own stated ~$50B-per-gigawatt figure, the compute commitment alone is worth tens of billions.

WHY IT MATTERS

Another pre-hardware gigawatt reservation — the compute race is being locked in years ahead of silicon, and NVIDIA is taking equity in its anchor customers.

Anthropic sues the Department of War over its 'supply chain risk' blacklisting

Anthropic filed two lawsuits against the Pentagon — one in the Northern District of California and one at the DC Circuit Court of Appeals — challenging the Department of War's designation of the company as a supply chain risk to national security.

The fight stems from Anthropic's refusal to drop two contractual red lines: no domestic mass surveillance and no fully autonomous lethal targeting. The designation, formalized in a March 4 letter, was the first time the tool had been aimed at a US company, and it threatened to force any government contractor doing business with the Pentagon to cut ties with Anthropic. Anthropic argues the move violates the First Amendment and is an arbitrary abuse of procurement authority; government filings later claimed concern that Anthropic might preemptively alter Claude's behavior mid-warfighting.

WHY IT MATTERS

The clearest test yet of whether a model provider can be punished for safety guardrails baked into a deployed system — with direct consequences for anyone shipping frontier models into government or defense supply chains.

Yann LeCun's AMI Labs raises $1.03B seed — Europe's largest ever — to bet against LLMs

Advanced Machine Intelligence Labs, the Paris-based startup co-founded by Turing Award winner Yann LeCun after he left Meta in November, closed a $1.03 billion seed round at a $3.5 billion pre-money valuation.

The round was co-led by Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital and Bezos Expeditions, with Nvidia, Mark Cuban, Eric Schmidt and Tim Berners-Lee among the backers. AMI is building world models on LeCun's JEPA approach — systems that learn from real-world sensor data rather than text — and is hiring across Paris, New York, Montreal and Singapore. LeCun has said the lab will be one of the few frontier labs that is neither Chinese nor American.

WHY IT MATTERS

Largest seed round in European history, aimed at an explicitly non-LLM research direction — a real signal on where patient capital thinks the next architecture comes from.
